Jasbir K. Puar is Professor and Graduate Director of Women’s and Gender Studies at Rutgers University. Her most recent book is The Right to Maim: Debility, Capacity, Disability (2017) published with Duke University Press in the series ANIMA: Critical Race Studies Otherwise that she co-edits with Mel Chen. Puar is the author of award-winning Terrorist Assemblages: Homonationalism in Queer Times (2007). Her research interests lie in critical ethnic studies, cultural studies, feminist globalization studies, immigration and diasporas, queer studies and sexualities studies.

In this public conversation with Dr. Andrea Zimmermann (ZGS, The Art of Intervention) we will touch upon different aspects of Philomena Essed’s work. We will connect these topics with several research projects that are conducted in the PhD program at the ZGS and in our networks at the moment.
Philomena Essed is professor of Critical Race, Gender and Leadership Studies at Antioch University, Graduate School of Leadership and Change and Affiliated Researcher at the University of Utrecht, Gender Graduate Program. Well-known for introducing the concepts of everyday racism and gendered racism, Essed also pioneered in developing theory on social and cultural cloning.
